There are many citation styles to choose from, however, most citation styles fit into certain fields of study. Be sure to ask your instructor which style is preferred in his or her course.

APA (American Psychological Association): Generally used by the social sciences, psychology, education and some hard sciences.

Chicago (also called Turabian): Generally used in history courses or general courses

MLA (Modern Language Association): Generally used in humanities and writing courses.

Not seeing what you want? No worries! These citation styles are not your only options, there are tons of standard styles for different fields. Check out Purdue’s Online Writing Lab (OWL) for a comprehensive list of most common citation styles by subject.
