Ole Goes to Washington
Usually Ole is a perfect gentleman and reliable hand, but lately I have noticed that he sometimes forgets to shut a gate or fails to give my favorite saddle pony, Rex, his gallon of oats.

Ole Creates a Hailstorm
I once had a very weedy wheat field. Ole said it was because I was a poor farmer. I blamed it on the weather. This weedy field worried Ole.

The Wild Cats
We had neighbors who were so kindhearted that they could not bring themselves to control the cat population on their farm. Consequently, they soon had over a dozen cats of various sizes and ages. The family decided to move and the cats were left to forage for themselves.

A Fortune Made and Lost
There is never a dull hour when Ole is around. I like to raises watermelons - good tasting melons. I don't care if they are small just so they taste out of this world, as I tell Ole. Ole disagrees with me.

We Find the Lost Gold Mine

The Flying Wheatbin
During the dust bowl days in Western Kansas we were short of money and credit so we often had to make do, so to speak. Yes, I remember I had a big cornfield that was suffering from lack of rain, but the grass in the pasture was even worse. I decided I would fence the cornfield with an electric fence and use it for cattle pasture.

Ole Levels a Field
Ole and me both like the level land in Lane County, Ks. But we had one field that had a gully that was bothersome to farm or cultivate. Ole had spent years as a sailor on ships driven by the wind by sails set to take advantage of the wind, be it strong or weak.

Ole Hires the Prairie Dogs
I am sure Ole is not lazy, but on the other hand he does a lot of work to avoid work. Now for instance, he caught several prairie dogs - beg pardon, Ole said they ae not dogs but prairie squirrels and that they are a lot easier to catch than a common cold. Ole said a steel trap might injure them so he uses a stocking cap."

Ole Traps the Killer Cougar
Ole was a versatile fellow. He had trapped wild game for the park department. It so happened a few years ago that a mountain cougar invaded Western Kansas. It would kill a 500 or 600 pound calf, eat only the liver and then depart for places unknown. Or her might stay for a short time.

The Rattler
My hired man, Ole, was a splendid fellow, but he was terribly lazy. Even lazier that I. So I bought an alarm clock. Trouble was, neither of us would wind it. So I bought Ole one that was worn on the wrist and was kept wound by the motion of the wearer's arm. But Ole did not stir enough to keep it wound.

Ole Photographs the Eclipse
After Ole sold one third interest in his Alaskan gold mine he spent money lavishly. He was always interested in photography, so he bought elaborate equipment to take pictures of the sun in eclipse. To get this picture at its best we went to New Guinea on a mountain top - in cannibal-infested country, we were warned.

A Narrow Escape
It was the year of the big wheat crop in Western Kansas. There was so much chaff and straw on the ground that the slightest spark ignited the stubble and soon the entire field was ablaze. We never saw so many wheat fields afire as we did that year.

A Visit to Australia
Our eventful trip to Alaska to relocate Ole's lost gold mine was nearing a satisfactory ending. Out Piper cub glided to a stop on the prairie in Lane Co., Ks. Ole had sent a telegram to Luleo, Sweden informing his sweetheart, Olga Lindberg, that he was coming to marry her.

Ole Writes a Story
Ole has a good sense of humor and I do love to hear him laugh as he has such a jovial, merry laugh. It really is contageous and sets everyone a laughing. But one day, he was out in the barn and was laughing uproariously, but it was not his usual laugh. It was vulgar, ribald laughter.

Goodbye, Ole!
As I said before, Ole is a many-sided fellow, sometimes very humble and childlike. He could believe the cow jumped over the moon or the moon went over the cow with equal childlike pleasure.

An Indian Attack (?)
It was springtime on the Kansas prairie, the scent of newly plowed sod was in the air. True, the buffalo and gramma grass was still dormant, but the ducks, geese and the sandhill cranes were northward bound, and were they plentiful. I wish I could have been there, don't you?
